Mom in the ’80s sitcom FAMILY TIES and the star of a bazillion Lifetime TV movies, MEREDITH BAXTER, used THE TODAY SHOW to announce that she’s a lesbian and in a committed relationship. Just like on the MICKEY MOUSE CLUB, Wednesday is “Anything Can Happen Day.”

I wrote a novel about a woman coming out late-in-life called Seeking Sara Summers. For these women it isn’t about getting their 15 minutes of fame (a criticism of Meredith Baxter on another site), it’s about getting a life. I think it takes a tremendous amount of courage to simply be who you are.

I have a lot of respect for Meredith Baxter. I can only guess how difficult it was for her to go public with her admission. Additionally, I hope she feels a great deal of relief now and that she won’t have to feel as if she’s keeping a secret. I wish her all the best. Even as a straight person, I will indeed continue to vote for candidates who author and support legislation that favors the rights of gays, lesbians, and transgendered people. All the best to her.

I have always enjoyed her shows, I remember watching her all the time. I Respect her a great dea for her coming out. It must have very diffucult for her to ‘expose herself’ on national T.V. as she did, yet what courage. Hurray for Meradeth & her partner!!l
