yellow-submarineOn this day in 1968, UNITED ARTISTS released THE BEATLES’ mind-bending animated musical YELLOW SUBMARINE. Directed by GEORGE DUNNING from a script/story by LEE MINOFF, the trippy style was not unlike that of commercial artist MILTON GLAZER. The nonsense story wasn’t the point of the film but rather the style, colors and music. JOHN LENNON, PAUL McCARTNEY, GEORGE HARRISON and RINGO STARR provided the voices for SGT. PEPPER’S LONELY HEARTS CLUB BAND as they worked their way past the Blue Meanies and into Pepperland. Word has it that the film is about to be remade by “mo-cap” maven ROBERT ZEMICKIS (Heaven help us all!).
