Janet Jackson will kick off this years 37th Annual American Music Awards with a special performance.

Dick Clark Productions has announced that the pop-singer will perform a medley of her greatest hits, which should set the tone for the evening right away.

Jackson joins a growing list of performers for the event that includes, Whitney Huston, Rihanna, Green Day, Shakira, Lil’ Wayne, Mary J. Blige, Keith Urban, Lady Gaga, Eminem, Jay-Z, Alicia Keys, Jennifer Lopez, The Black Eyed Peas as well as former American Idol-ites and now superstars, Kelly Clarkson, Carrie Underwood, Daughtry and Adam Lambert.

For the third year, winners will be determined by online voting at www.ama.abc.com, www.amavote.com and www.mycokerewards.com. The categories: Pop/Rock, Country, Rap/Hip-Hop, Soul/R&B, Alternative, Adult Contemporary, Latin and Contemporary Inspirational.
