On this day in 1974, UNITED ARTISTS released LENNY. Directed by BOB FOSSE from a screenplay by JULIAN BERRY, this unique (and very dark) biopic of the gifted but troubled social satirist LENNY BRUCE was a revelation. DUSTIN HOFFMAN starred in the titular role and introduced a whole new audience to the tragic story of BRUCE. Notable performances from VALERIE PERRINE as BRUCE’S stripper wife and JAN MINER as his mother. A brilliant film by any standard.
