Mariah Carey has been packing houses from the start of her music career. And after a rocky beginning in the film biz (remember Glitter), the singer has been getting her props for her performances in movies like You Don’t Mess with the Zohan, Tennessee and now her current film, Precious (where Oscar buzz has already begun).
Carey plain-janed up for her role as Mrs. Weiss, as a dowdy social worker in Precious - which shocked her loyal fans. But, wait ’till they get a load of the storyline (an overweight teen raped and impregnated by her abusive father).
Carey feels fortunate to have the kind of longevity she’s had, but the singer says none of that would have been possible if she didn’t enjoy the ride.

Precious, co-starring Mo’Nique, Paula Patton, Gabourey “Gabby” Sidibe and rocker, Lenny Kravitz, opens in selected theaters Friday, November 6th.
