On this day in 1956, Carrie Fisher is born to actress Debbie Reynolds and singer Eddie Fisher. Fisher grew up to co-star in the blockbuster Star Wars movie and its sequels. She wrote a best-selling novel, Postcards from the Edge, based on her struggle with drugs, and another, Surrender the Pink, inspired by her ill-fated marriage to singer Paul Simon.
