Eoin Colfer was contacted by the widow of Douglas Adams to write And Another Thing, the sequel to his cult classic, Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy. And, it’s because he loved that book and its author to much, that he hesitated.
Colfer thought long and hard about all the reasons why he was apprehensive and decided that none were good enough to keep him from the project.
He did hear feedback from fans of Hitchhiker about how much they hated the idea of Colfer attempting to take the story further. He admits even he was shocked at some of the comments he read online.
Colfer plugged through and finished the book without too much trouble. As the author of the teen novel series, Artemis Fowl, he discovered quickly that writing for adults wasn’t much different that writing for kids.
