Coraline producer Bill Mechanic and Hairspray director, Adam Shankman have been named as producers of the 82nd Academy Award telecast, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences announced today.
This is the second year in a row that the Academy has broken with traditional producing choices like Gil Cates, who has overseen production on 14 of the Oscar shows.
Last year, Dreamgirls producers Bill Condon and Laurence Mark were tapped to take the reigns. The choice of Mechanic and Shankman suggests the Academy is leaning heavily in that same creative direction.
The Academy Awards will be presented March 7th, 2010 from the Kodak Theatre in Hollywood. The telecast will air live on ABC.
