Where the Wild Things Are is the movie version of the classic Caldecott-winning children’s book by author Maurice Sendak. In the story, Max is a naughty boy who is sent to his room without supper after rebelling against his mom.  Through his imagination, Max embarks on a journey to the land of the Wild Things, where he becomes ruler. Director Spike Jonze has done a great job keeping the integrity of the source material including the illustrations which are beautifully brought to life.

Michael Harding (Penn Badgley) comes home from military school to find that his mother (Sela Ward) is living with her boyfriend (Dylan Walsh).  It doesn’t take long for Michael to figure out that Daddy-Dearest isn’t the role model he presents himself as in The Stepfather.  The film is a time-honored traditional slasher flick.  Gotta love it.

After his family is murdered and the killer goes free, Clyde Shelton (Gerard Butler) goes on a tear to get even in Law Abiding Citizen.  And that plan to settle the score includes slamming D.A. Nick Rice (Jamie Foxx), who brokered the plea deal to let the criminal off the hook.  Prep for explosions, gunfire and dead bodies - sensationally executed.

Blaxploitation is alive and well with this new entry into the local multiplex, Black Dynamite.  After The Man murders his brother, dumps dope into an orphanage and sends malt liquor free-flowing into the ghetto, ’70s action legend, Black Dynamite enters on the scene to clean up the streets.  If the Afro doesn’t grab you the moustache will.
