On this day in 1945, M-G-M released the granddaddy of all ‘product placement’ movies with WWEK-END AT THE WALDORF. Directed by ROBERT Z. LEONARD, this musical rip-off of GRAND HOTEL was really just a giant love-letter to Manhattan’s Waldorf-Astoria Hotel. Included in the cast are GINGER ROGERS, LANA TURNER, WALTER PIDGEON, VAN JOHNSON, EDWARD ARNOLD and ROBERT BENCHLEY.
