On this day in 1939, WARNER BROTHERS PICTURES released THE PRIVATE LIVES OF ELIZABETH AND ESSEX. Directed by MICHAEL CURTIZ this telling of the great love between Elizabeth l and the Earl of Essex was anything BUT a love story behind the scenes. Reportedly, stars BETTE DAVIS and ERROL FLYNN hated each other with a passion. Joining them in the cast were OLIVIA deHAVILLAND, DONALD CRISP, ALAN HALE and VINCENT PRICE.
