On this day in 1948, WARNER BROTHERS PICTURES released ROPE. Directed by ALFRED HITCHCOCK from HUME CRONYN’S adaptation of the PATRICK HAMILTON play, this story of murder and deception is the director’s most theatrical effort. Mostly noted for its technical achievements and loosely based on the real-life LEOPOLD and LOEB murders, the cast included JAMES STEWART, JOHN DAHL, FARLEY GRANGER, CEDRIC HARDWICKE and CONSTANCE COLLIER. One of HITCHCOCK’s best.
