Director-writer Quentin Tarrantino gives World War II his own spin in his new film, Inglorious Basterds. Brad Pitt stars as the leader of band of U.S. soldiers scheduled for execution by firing squad. The group has a chance to redeem themselves by traveling to Nazi-occupied France on a suicide mission for the Allies. Look for Tarrantino-isms i.e. fast-talking characters, wacky dialogue and wincing violence. Rated R.
Shorts is director Robert Rodriguez latest kiddy flick, but like all of his PG films, moviegoers of all ages will enjoy the tale. An 11-year-old boy named Toe Thompson has his humdrum life turned upside down after a mysterious rainbow-colored rock falls from the sky, brains him then begins granting wishes to the person holding it. Naturally, wishes go wrong and leave the neighborhood crawling with everything from itty-bitty spaceships to crocodile armies. Toe and his buddies have to save their town after the grown-ups get their mitts on the rock.
Post Grad stars Alexis Bledel (Gilmore Girls) as Ryden Malby a recent college graduate that can’t find a job. She ends up returning home to live with her eccentric family. She turns to a longtime friend to help her make sense of her nutty life. Rated PG-13.
World’s Greatest Dad is the world’s oddest premise for a movie. After his son dies from a freak masturbation accident, Lance (Robin Williams), fakes a suicide note to spare the family from shame. The note gets published - without his permission - and that prompts Lance to restart his writing career…by penning a personal journal that claims was written by his son (Daryl Sabara). Rated R.
