On this day in 1987, VESTRON PICTURES released DIRTY DANCING. Directed by EMILE ARDOLINO this story of hanky-panky at a Catskills Summer resort hit a nerve with audiences and developed a major cult following. With a cast that included PATRICK SWAYZE, JENNIFER GREY, JERRY ORBACH, KELLY BISHOP and JACK WESTON the film inspired a dance craze, reinterest in 60’s pop music and, eventually, a successful stage adaptation.
