Paula Abdul’s manager may have loose lips regarding her contract – or lack of one – for season nine of American Idol, but the network is keeping mum. Fox will neither confirm nor deny Abdul’s contract or return to the show. Instead they offer a quick, “no comment” before fielding questions to Abdul’s publicist, Jeff Ballard.
But, it was the singer/judge’s new manager, David Sonneberg, who told the L.A. Times that Abdul is being snubbed, stating that despite auditions ramping up he hadn’t even received confirmation of their intent.
But, reports say neither has Idol’s new fourth judge, Kara DioGuardi, who many believed was brought in to eventually ice Abdul from the show. Ryan Seacrest just resigned with Idol, nabbing a reported $45 million deal. Randy Jackson was re-upped until 2011, while Simon Cowell is said to have been offered a whopping $140-plus million deal, but so far, he’s denying the reports.
Meanwhile, Twitter has gone Tweet-crazy for Abdul, who has been with the show since the start. Many of the posts are supportive, out and out asking for producers to keep Abdul on the show. Others are shocked, and still more suspect of the manager’s claim. Whatever the case, Abdul’s own Twitter page is loaded with messages from fans making it clear they love their Paula and want her back on the show. And the singer, touched by the outpouring of affection, is responding back with many thank yous including, “If it weren’t for you, this specific time and situation would feel a whole lot worse. I really am speechless…your comments all make me remember why I love doing what I do. I truly am moved.”
Calls to Abdul’s publicist have not been returned.
