The script was ready.  The studio was ready.  The production team was ready.  All of the pieces were in place for “Lethal Weapon 5″ to happen — except one.  There is no “Lethal Weapon” without the Martin Riggs character, and there is no Martin Riggs without Mel Gibson.  But Gibson has refused to get on board with the project, which studio sources claim would be a much better film than 1998’s “LW4.”  Gibson, who hasn’t had an acting credit to his name since 2003’s “The Singing Detective,” is reportedly upset that Richard Donner, who directed the first four films, hasn’t been asked back.  Producer Joel Silver’s been trying to persuade Gibson to make the movie, but tells us it’s not looking good.
