122Director Chris Columbus’ latest effort, “I Love You Beth Cooper,” will open in 1231900 theaters this Friday, a modest count compared to recent releases like “Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen” (4234 theaters), “Up” (3766), ”Star Trek” (3849), and ”Night at the Museum: Battle of the Smithsonian” (4096).  However, it’s a huge number compared to his biggest hit, “Home Alone,” which opened in just 1202 theaters in 1990.  Is bigger really better?  Columbus argues that today’s large theater counts work against the mystique of the moviegoing experience.
