On this day in 1945, MONOGRAM PICTURES released DILLINGER. Directed by MAX NOSSECK and starring LAWRENCE TIERNEY and ANNE JEFFREYS, this film claimed to tell the DILLINGER story in all it’s truth and glory. Banned from being screened in Chicago for two years, conservative social and religious groups wanted it outlawed completely.
Almost sixty-five years later, MICHAEL MANN’S gangster epic PUBLIC ENEMIES is making sure John Dillinger is still on the big screen.
