On this day in 1942, WARNER BROTHERS released YANKEE DOODLE DANDY, the giant musical biopic based on the life of  the legendary GEORGE M. COHAN. Directed by MICHAEL CURTIZ and starring JAMES CAGNEY, JOAN LESLIE, WALTER HOUSTON and ROSEMARY DeCAMP, the film went on to win three Oscars and become an all-time musical classic.
