On this day in 1954, REPUBLIC PICTURES released JOHNNY GUITAR. Directed by NICHOLAS RAY, this tale of a saloon owner who comes up against gunslingers while tring to build a western town rides that fine line between melodrama and camp. It doesn’t help that JOAN CRAWFORD is the saloon owner in question. It does, however, help that a great cast of character actors manage to save the day.
