Christian Bale has scored his biggest success with action-driven movies, including the two most recent Batman movies and “Terminator: Salvation,” which opened with a $53.8 million weekend.  But he really made a name for himself in more character-driven movies, such as “Metroland,” “Laurel Canyon,” “Rescue Dawn.”  As an actor, he really appreciates the depth he gets to show in the character pieces, but when he signs on for a big-budget effects extravaganza, he knows people are more drawn to the action than the story.
