On this day in 1939, WARNER BROTHERS released one of the greatest ‘women’s pictures’ of all time. DARK VICTORY told the story of a young socialite hit with an inoperable brain tumour who tries to finish out her life (and loves) with dignity. Directed by EDMUND GOULDING, the film starred BETTE DAVIS, GEORGE BRENT, HUMPHREY BOGART, GERALDINE FITZGERALD and RONALD REAGAN. Audiences were wisely advised to bring hankies.
