On this day in 1943, M-G-M took a giant leap of faith and released an authentically cast big screen version of the hit Broadway show, A CABIN IN THE SKY. Directed by VINCENTE MINNELLI, the movie featured an all-black cast headlined by ETHEL WATERS, LENA HORNE, LOUIS ARMSTRONG, EDDIE ‘ROCHESTER’ ANDERSON and BUTTERFLY McQUEEN. A brilliant film that deserves to be seen as much today as then.
