On this day in 1968, a sci-fi classic was born with the 20th CENTURY FOX release of PLANET OF THE APES. Directed by FRANKLIN J. SCHAFFNER from a screenplay by ROD SERLING, the film starred CHARLTON HESTON, RODDY McDOWELL, KIM HUNTER and bowled over audiences from Day One. A great movie that spawned several (well, not so great) sequels. A whole generation of moviegoers maintain a special place in their hearts for PLANET OF THE APES.
