On this day in 1953, 20th CENTURY FOX released the smash musical CALL ME MADAM based on the smash Broadway show of the same name. Directed by WALTER LANG and starring ETHEL MERMAN as the Truman-era US ambassador to a small European country the film is a techicolor delight. Supporting cast includes DONNALD O’CONNOR, VERA-ELLEN, GEORGE SANDERS, BILLY DeWOLFE and WALTER SLEZAK (to name just a few). MERMAN and O’CONNOR just stand-out as great.
