On this day in 1960, 20th Century Fox released CAN-CAN, a big screen version of the successful COLE PORTER Broadway musical. Directed by WALTER LANG, set in 1896 Montmartre and starring FRANK SINATRA, SHIRLEY MacLAINE, JULIET PROWSE, MAURICE CHEVALIER and LOUIS JOURDAN, the film was one of the biggest productions of the year. The CAN-CAN set was a requested destination when Russian Premier NIKITA KRUSHCHEV and his wife visited America. The choreography (by MICHAEL KIDD) was considered some of the raciest ever.
