On this day in 1970, Universal Pictures released AIRPORT and launched a franchise that would carry on for a decade. Taking a page from earlier airborne disaster movies, director GEORGE SEATON adapted the script from the bestselling book by ARTHUR HAILEY and then filled the plane with every star Universal could get its hands on.
