On this day in 1969, 20th Century Fox released the big screen adaptation of JAY PRESSON ALLEN’S popular play, THE PRIME OF MISS JEAN BRODIE. Directed by  RONALD NEAME and starring MAGGIE SMITH, ROBERT STEPHENS and PAMELA FRANKLIN this story of an eccentric school teacher at a private girls’ school circa 1930 is a mainstay in the ‘popular schoolteacher’ genre.

MAGGIE SMITH picked up a Best Actress Oscar for her performance and poet ROD McKUNE’s song JEAN was nominated for Best Song.
