On this day in 1997, BUENA VISTA PICTURES went wide with the most anticipated movie event of the year. EVITA, based on the smash Broadway hit with music and lyrics by ANDREW LLOYD WEBER and TIM RICE, was directed by ALAN PARKER and starred MADONNA, ANTONIO BANDERAS and JONATHAN PRYCE. Unfortunately, it fell pretty flat on fan’s ears and while it wasn’t exactly a flop, it came and went quickly.
