On this day in 1970, 20th Century Fox released PATTON, the story of the controversial U.S. Army General who may or may not have been a complete lunatic. Based on the book by GEN. OMAR BRADLEY, the script was worked on by FRANCIS FORD COPPOLA and directed by FRANKLIN J. SHAFFNER. GEORGE C. SCOTT was nothing short of amazing in the title role and the film went on to win a total of seven Academy Awards. Really one for the ages.
