FIREPROOF (Samuel Goldwyn Fims  PG  $28.96) KIRK CAMERON is a fireman trying to balance the pressures of his job with the pressures of a failing marriage. A surprise hit at the box-office, this faith-based film wears it’s heart on it’s sleeve but comes across as well intentioned and features a performance by CAMERON that is engaging and charming.

LAKEVIEW TERRACE (Sony Home Entertainment  PG-13  $28.96) When a young interracial couple (KERRY WASHINGTON, PATRICK WILSON) moves into a new neighborhood, their uptight policeman next door neighbor (SAMUEL L. JACKSON) decides to dole out his own brand of justice. Despite feeling like a movie made in the 80’s, LAKEVIEW TERRACE proves to be a solid thriller.

THE ROCKER (2oth Century Fox  PG-13  $29.98) RAIN WILSON (THE OFFICE) takes the titular role as a middle-aged guy whose dreams of rock and roll stardom have long gone up in smoke. When the opportunity to play in a kid’s garage band comes up, he runs with it and, over the course of the film, life lessons are learned all around. Yes, it sounds corny (and it is) but manages to be great fun as a result of the performances by WILSON, CRISTINA APPLEGATE and (the immensely charming) TEDDY GEIGER.

VICKY CRISTINA BARCELONA (The Weinstein Company  PG-13  $28.95) Two American women (SCARLETT JOHANSSON, REBECCA HALL) head to Barcelona for a Summer of romantic excitement and find themselves involved with the same Spaniard (JAVIER BARDEM). Written and directed by WOODY ALLEN, it’s his best in years. And it doesn’t hurt that PENELOPE CRUZ has bagged an Oscar nomination for her role as BARDEM’S ex-wife.
