On this day in 1952, Warner Brothers released THE JAZZ SINGER, a remake of the 1927 AL JOLSON classic that introduced sound to the movies. This time around, MICHAEL CURTIZ directed a cast that included DANNY THOMAS, PEGGY LEE and MILDRED DUNNOCK.

It’s appropriate that the story centered on a Cantor’s son who wants to sing pop music because the ’schmaltz’ level in this runs pretty high.
