On this day in 1957, Columbia Pictures released the DAVID LEAN epic, THE BRIDGE ON THE RIVER KWAI. Set against the backdrop of a Japanese POW camp, this WWII film starred WILLIAM HOLDEM, ALEC GUINESS, SESSUE HAYAKAWA and JACK HAWKINS. Considered a classic to this day, the film won seven Academy Awards.
