On this day in 1971, THE FRENCH CONNECTION premiered in theaters across America and reinvented the American crime drama. Directed by WILLIAM FRIEDKIN and starring GENE HACKMAN and ROY SCHEIDER, the film was the first R-rated movie to win the Best Picture Oscar.
