Wanted (Universal Pictures) Angelina Jolie’s lithe and sculpted body is prominently on display in Wanted, a movie filled with eye catching CGI effects and adrenaline charged action sequences.  Atonement’s James McAvoy is Wes, an office drone whose life is as limited as his cubicle, that is until a sexy assassin named Fox (Jolie) recruits him into a society called the Fraternity, which is headed by Morgan Freeman. The Fraternity’s job is to eliminate bad seeds in hopes of maintaining balance in our world and after some rigorous and violent training at the hands of Fox and her cohorts he is up to the task.  His main mission is to snuff out the man (Thomas Kretschmann) responsible for killing the father he never knew.  While the plot itself is intriguing, director Timur Bekmambetov prefers to solely skim the surface and entertain the audience with his surehanded visual style.  All this is fine and dandy if one simply wants to tune out for nearly two hours and go on a visceral journey (it is, after all, based on a graphic novel).  On that superficial level, Wanted works.  However it’s a shame that first rate actors such as McAvoy, Jolie, and Freeman have so little to do in Wanted.  I left the movie just wanting a bit more from the experience, even if a summer popcorn flick was all Wanted really has to offer.
